The Great Divide’s Hercules DIPA is an utter pleasure to drink. I have had this beer a few times before and decided just recently to review this tasty brew.
I opened this bottle right out of the refrigerator and noticed right away why I liked this beer so much. The pungent slap to the face of hops! There is a hint of citrus at first smell then an over powering hoppiness that will make you pour at once. I poured into an American pint glass and noted to copper, cloudy color. I took a sample. This beer has bite. At 10% ABV and 85 IBUs the hops almost overpowers this beers other flavors. This beer is bitter but does give way to the rest of the flavors eventually. I took another taste and noticed the citrus from before and an overall earthy feel to this brew. Somewhat of a nutty taste, but more of a blended nut fruit mouth feel. The best way I can put it would be that this beer is a hoppy delight with a fruity center to it’s body.
I enjoyed this beer with a warm Shepherds pie. The beer did not take away from the meal at all. Next time I will probably enjoy some grilled fish and chips with this brew though.
The ingredients of this beer call me back for more. I recommend this brew to true IPA fans. GD uses the phrase “not for the faint of heart” and I could not agree more. I give the Hercules a 2 on the EGS.
Go Drink an IPA!!!!
