New Area Photos

Here are a few photos from yesterdays trip to Mizugaki. Needless to say the 40 min hike actually took three hours. Let’s just say we zigged when we should have zagged. The only photos that I was able to take are of the main area. There are about four more satellite areas very close by that offer small and large pinnacles, slabs, or Steep faces. And there is an unclimbed spire another 30 minutes up that looks to be at least seven pitches. We are both very excited with this find.

The main area is 30 meters tall with about ten routes. We bolted two routes yesterday that look to be 12+ and 13+. We are planning on going back tomorrow if the weather will permit. Speaking of weather, the temps were in the lower teens (C) yesterday. You are very high in the mountains and this time of the year the weather is very unpredictable on Mizugaki. Of course it decided to rain a little because I forgot to take my jacket along. Fortunately the wall is steep enough that I was able to cower against it and stay dry. Because of the rain I was not able to shoot many photos. I will try and make it happen tomorrow to give you a better impression of this very interesting area.

I will keep you posted on the progress of the new area and the happenings around here in Japan. The trip to Hawaii is next week. Time is sure flying by.
