Traveling for any trip can be stressful, but traveling internationally with a 14 month old accompanied by several bags of camera gear, climbing gear and cloths add another level of difficulty that only a parent can understand. We made all of our flights with enough time, but upon arriving to Tucson airport only two of our four bags were on the carousel. Of course the two bags missing were my climbing and camera gear which with their absence impeded our planed day of climbing. I am not sure if I mentioned in any previous post, but my wife and I are hoping to someday move to Tucson and raise our family.
Since climbing was out of the question for a day or so we decided to go for a quick hike the next morning and then check out the area around the University of Arizona in downtown for an afternoon. We hiked up the Ventana Canyon to scope out some of the boulders located there. After a couple mile hike through the beautiful canyon Gavin started to get restless and we decided to head back and head downtown. I did see some of the lower boulder which include several nice smooth gneiss blocks of varying sizes. After the canyon we drove to the downtown area for some culture. We spent most of our time on 4th Ave. 4th Ave is a very touristy site but a must visit on your first time to Tucson. The area is full of great restaurants, bars, and vintage shops.
As it turned out I had to pick up my bags from the airport this afternoon. We are planning on going bouldering tomorrow at the Tanque Verde area due east of town. There are some cool looking boulders there that I am quite interested in wrestling. Till next time…….
Go Climb Something!!!!
