Flash of Orange

On Saturday, the family went back to the limestone boulder to establish some problems. The cold was overwhelming for the kids especially when clouds rolled in, which would eventually cut our trip short. After quite a bit of cleaning and cutting down a few small shrubs that obscured a safe top out, we finally started to climb. The main face of the boulder still has yet to see an ascent due to the landing.

The shorter more featured face on the left side of the block was a great place to start this day since with the family was in tow. Jack named this face after my wife Star. Like the rest of the boulder, Star’s wall is a very steep water grooved face with an obvious problem right up the center that starts low with V2/3 moves. The following moves are long moves on smooth sloper jugs. The top is about 4 meters high with an easy, scary for the beginner, mantel. There is a fun problem to the right that seems to be harder, but with a three year old and two toddlers paired with all of the cleaning, we were only able to climb one problem. Next time……..

In the photo below Jensen works through the middle slopers and is about to grab a key right hand hold. Without your right hand here the problem feel like a V3+.
