As the months of summer pass, I have been true to my word on wearing the new Mountain Khaki Equatorial pant as much as possible, see previous post here. This summer, like the past two here in Japan, has been hot and humid in the valleys and substantially cooler in the mountains, both perfect conditions for the Equatorial pant.
I have to say that I have been in the mountains quite a bit over the past couple of months, trudging around in my favorite pants. Busy shooting, climbing and I have started to trail run a bit which I am really enjoying. I have not had a great opportunity to run on trails in the past, but recently I have located a trail near our house here with easy access. Since we have moved to Japan I have tried to push myself to cross train as much as I can and running has been included in the mix off and on. I am not fond of running due to the monotony and lack of stimulus. But trail running changes that. You are always going somewhere and I enjoy that.
As I said before, it is hot in Japan right now, so climbing outside is a chore. I have spent more time searching for new boulders with my good Japanese friend Jack, than climbing. Most recently, we located about 12 new boulders with a plethora of problems and new projects that will need to be revisited later when the temps are cooler. We scrubbed a couple of blocks and sent a few fun problems, but not classics for the area. One V4+ promises to be a great problem, but still needs more elbow grease to remove the thick layer of moss that covers the sloper top out. All of the boulders in this area are granite with a protective canopy. I think we will be able to start sending the harder lines as soon as late September. Psyched!!
I have been working with several companies in the outdoor industry and I have to say that the quality of work and relationships are fantastic. I have put together a few photo shoots in the Japanese Alps near Nagano and on Mt Kitadake in the Yamanashi Prefecture in the coming months featuring trail running and backpacking. I am also ironing out the details to shoot a few professional Japanese climbers on some of their more notable projects. More on that to come soon!
In the end, I have been busy doing what has always been an obsession of mine, being in the mountains. This obsession has grown into a blossoming profession, that I hope will engage me for the rest of my life.
I hope you enjoy the photos below and I will post again soon.
Go Climb Something!!!!
Eddie looking good…. Like the stretch in those mountain khakis! Seriously, enjoyed reading your post and am impressed with your ability to get a leg up.
Thanks Dave! If your in the market for a new pair of shorts or pants make sure to add MKs in your search. Massey’s has them in stock. When are you coming to Japan?
