I have not updated my blog in a while, but I wanted to add a few shots from a shoot I had while I was in Washington. La Sportiva running athlete Andrew Fast and I met up in the Olympics for a day of shooting. I had scoped out a few great spots that I thought would work out for morning, afternoon and evening light.
On the morning of the shoot Andrew and I met at a state park on the coast, but to our surprise it was the first day of hunting season. Since we left our hunters orange at home we had to move on to plan B. We drove the 45 minutes up Deer Park and found some wonderful light and cloudless skies. After a quick sesh we headed to a dense wooded area in the foot hills of the Olympics to take advantage of the dapple light in the afternoon. For this shoot I chose to use my Photoflex Triton because the ambient light was to low to capture the running with an acceptable ISO. I wound up using the Triton at a low setting as fill light to freeze the runner. I did use a slower shutter speed to show a bit of action which the client was very pleased with.
Around 5pm we headed to Hurricane Ridge to take advantage of the amazing low light that would tie the whole day together. We nailed it. The light, the athlete and the energy were all perfect. I am not sure it could have gone any better. Again, for this shoot I used the Triton for fill light. At one point tried an orange filter to compliment the low sunlight, but the color change was very artificial looking and quite distracting. In the end the Triton at 1/8 power for fill was just right.
Here are a few of the shots and I hope you like what you see.
