Just 40 minutes down the road from my home is a bustling forest in the Tamagawa river gorge. The endless cedars that are so indicative of the forests in this area of Japan, create a photographer’s dream canvas. The dapple light and long shadows make it fun and easy to work with at all hours of the day. When I am here in these woods this time of the year I cherish the little moments that are sometimes fleeting in my everyday life. I take the time to notice the small fragments that dance in the air that are only noticed as they catch the intermittent sun beams that pass through the thick canopy above. These moments remind me of what John Muir once wrote “The sun does not shine on us, but in us.”
